Mindset & mental peace

You don’t want to disappoint anyone or make things difficult, so you say yes to that dinner you don’t have the energy for anyway. But overstepping your boundaries will ultimately cost you more than just one night of peace. Boundaries aren’t walls, they’re choices. They help you guard your energy and provide clarity instead of distance. Yet guilt often comes with the territory. That feeling doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong — it’s just your old pattern protesting. Let it be there, and set your boundary anyway. You don’t have to be harsh to be clear. For example, say, “I feel like I need time for myself,” or “I’ll let you know tomorrow.” Start small. Every “no” you consciously say is a yes to yourself. Setting boundaries without guilt is a practice. The more you do it, the easier it feels. And you’ll notice: people who truly care about you will respect your boundaries too.

Book tips

Where the Crawfish Sing – Delia Owens A compelling story about a girl growing up in the swamps of North Carolina. Full of nature, a mystery and a powerful main character. You forget the time. The Night Train to Lisbon – Pascal Mercier Philosophical and profound. About a teacher who suddenly changes his life and leaves for Portugal. A book to quietly disappear into. Middlesex – Jeffrey Eugenides A family history full of special twists, told by a unique narrator. Grand and penetrating, but smoothly written. Project Hail Mary – Andy Weir Science, space and humor in one story. Exciting and surprisingly emotional. Even if you don’t like space, this is addictive reading material. The Salt Path – Raynor Winn A true story of a couple who, after a major setback, take a long walk along the coast. Raw, honest and comforting. The Neverending Story – Michael Ende A classic that takes you to a fantasy world. Ideal if you really want to get out of your head. The Invisibles – Roy Jacobsen A quiet book about a family on a remote island. Slow and atmospheric. For those who long for simplicity and peace.

Capsule wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe sounds minimalistic, stylish and tightly organized. But what if you just really love sweaters? Soft, warm, oversized, knitted sweaters – and preferably in multiple colors. Good news: you can also put together a capsule wardrobe that works for you. A capsule doesn’t have to be boring or limited. It’s about having clothes that you feel good in, that go together and that you actually wear. So yes: even if you love sweaters, that fits perfectly within such a system. Start with your favorites. Choose 3 to 5 sweaters that you prefer to live in. Think of different styles: a thin turtleneck, a chunky knitted oversized sweater, a neutral basic, a cheerful color. Then work around that: which pants, skirts or dresses do you prefer to wear underneath? What goes with everything? Think in layers. A capsule with sweaters works well if you vary with what you wear underneath and on top: shirts, blouses, a blazer, a thin jacket. This way your outfits stay interesting without your closet overflowing.
